They say an apple a day keeps the doctor away, but there are many other ways that you can eliminate toxins from the body in order to maintain good health. Avoiding toxic substances will not only prevent further accumulations, but it will also help to eliminate any toxins that are present. Nourishing the body in order to support the eliminating organs has also been proven to be an effective strategy. Some methods are more effective than others, but when used in conjunction with each other, they complement each other very well.
A Healthy Diet is the Key
It is important that everyone detox at their own level because detoxing too fast can cause severe headaches, fatigue and other symptoms of detoxification.
Following the steps below will help to prevent high toxic levels and also maintain good health.
1.) Fruits and Vegetables
This is a no-brainer, but lots of fresh fruits and vegetables are necessary in order to efficiently remove toxins. They are high in fiber, which makes them essential for a healthy digestive system. A healthy digestive system in return has a greater ability to remove waste material before it becomes toxic in the body.
Organic produce is always the best choice because it generally does not contain any harmful fertilizers or pesticides. Even if it is washed, some of the chemical residue can still remain and be ingested.
2.) Extra Fiber
Fruits and vegetables are excellent sources of fiber. In some cases, however, it might be necessary to temporarily take in extra fiber. This is true in cases when parasites and certain digestive problems are present.
Some of the fiber that can be taken are ground flax seeds and psyllium. Ground and whole flax seeds are available at most health foods stores. The whole seeds can be ground up in a magic bullet before using to ensure the body can absorb the nutrients from them.
As for psyllium, it can be purchased in small flakes or in a powder at most health foods stores as well.
The only thing to remember is to take the extra fiber with lots of water because the fiber bulks and absorbs the liquids in the intestinal tract making it necessary for more fluids.
3.) Plenty of Fluids
Fluids are not only important when taking extra fiber, but they are also necessary for washing away internal dirt and grime. Some individuals need more than others depending on how many toxins are present. More toxins means more fluids are necessary, and generally speaking, a toxic body will require anywhere from two to four quarts a day.
The key is to consume fresh clean water, warm herbal teas and freshly made fruit and vegetable juices. All other drinks, including caffeine, alcohol, commercially produced fruit and vegetables juices, should be avoided.
4.) Lemon Water
Lemon water is very beneficial for the eliminating organs when taken first thing in the morning. It basically jump-starts the elimination process in order to prepare the body for a new day. Half a lemon in one to two cups of water is a good place to start, and the amount can be increased once the body gets used to it.
The only thing to remember is that lemon is very acidic and it can erode the tooth enamel. Therefore, it shouldn’t be taken in high amounts over a prolonged period of time.
6. Fasting and Cleansing
Juice Fast. A juice fast is an excellent way to cleanse the body. It basically allows the digestive system to rest while the rest of the body is cleaning house. The good thing about a juice fast is that it still allows one to take in nourishment from the juice, which makes the fast generally safe for most individuals.
Water Fast. A water fast is much more difficult than a juice fast because it does not allow for any nutrients to enter the body. This type of fast is much more dangerous and should not be attempted if the body is very toxic.
Organ Cleanses. In addition to fasting, there are also special cleanses that can be administered. A cleanse is often targeted to clean a specific organ, such as the colon, kidney and liver. These should be done in separate stages starting with the colon, then the kidneys and lastly, the liver. When done in separate stages it allows the body to move at a slower and safer pace and not as many toxins are released into the bloodstream at a time.
5.) Warming Herbs and Spices
Warming herbs and spices are also excellent for helping the body to eliminate harmful toxins. Basically what they do is warm the internal body causing it to break into a mild sweat, which then releases the toxins via the skin.
Some of the herbs and spices that can be taken are fresh ginger, garlic, cinnamon, cloves and cayenne. These foods can be added to salads and other dishes or brewed into a tea.
7.) Hot Bath or Sauna
Taking a hot bath or sauna is another good way to promote sweating. Saunas are said to be more effective and easier on the body, however, a bathtub will do the job as well when a sauna is not available.
Exercise also helps to promote sweating. In addition, it causes one to breathe deeper, which then increases oxygen levels throughout the body. More oxygen means more blood, and more blood means that more toxins are being washed away from the tissues.
Another way that exercise helps is that it strengthens the stomach muscles in order to increase the rate of digestion.
Any type of exercise is beneficial including light yoga and deep breathing exercises, as well as aerobics and weight training.
10.) Dry Brushing
Most do not know this, but dry brushing the skin before a bath increases the blood circulation to the skin’s surface. It is very effective at removing dead skin cells that block the pores, and thereby allows the body to release even more toxins.
