Enjoy this ashwagandha smoothie in the morning, at noon or in the evening. It tastes great, is loaded with nutrients, and it will help to naturally calm the body. At the same time, the smoothie can also help to increase both physical and mental energies.
Ashwagandha, also known as Indian Ginseng, is an adaptogen that helps to calm and strengthen the adrenal glands. The adrenals are responsible for creating the hormones that help us deal with stress and many other bodily functions. When the hormones are in balance the mind and body are able to cope much better. As a result, ashwagandha is great for taking later in the evening in order to relax both the mind and body for a deep sleep.
Another ingredient that supports the adrenals is the maca. Unlike ashwagandha, which is fairly bitter, maca has a sweeter taste and goes with just about anything. It contains many vitamins including B vitamins, minerals and enzymes, to support the overall health of the body.
Feel free to substitute raw cacao for the carob powder if you are making this in the morning. Raw cacao contains small amounts of caffeine to give the brain a jumpstart on the day.
Makes about 1. 5 cups.
1/2 tbsp. Carob Powder
1 tsp. Ashwagandha Powder (Indian Ginseng)
1/2 tsp. Maca Powder
1/4 tsp. Vanilla Powder
1/4 tsp. Stevia Leaf Powder
Dash of Sea Salt
1/2 tbsp. Coconut Oil
1 cup Hot Water (or cold, whichever you prefer)
1/4 cup Nut Milk
1 Cinnamon Stick (For use as a straw or stir stick.) If you want, you can also sprinkle a dash of cinnamon on top instead of using a stick.
Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth. Enjoy!!
If you want, you can also combine the ingredients in a large mug and use a stick blender to blend it all up. You wouldn’t even need to blend it, but I find that it creates a smoother drink if you do.
