Avocados are rich with many healthy oils, antioxidants and other nutrients that are essential for optimal health. When the fruit is eaten, the nutrients work together to prevent age related diseases, and keep the body looking and feeling young from the inside out. However, the fruit can also be used externally for hair and skin care. For that reason, the healthy oils are extracted and used in many cosmetic products such as cleansing creams, bath oils, hair conditioners and lipsticks.
You can also make your own avocado beauty products at home, and they are just as effective. Here are some practical beauty uses for avocados:
Avocados make for a great natural skin cleanser that will bring dry and flaky skin back to a natural and healthy shine. This is due to the amino acid known as Glutamine as well as vitamins A and E. These nutrients work together to remove toxins and other debris, such as dead skin cells, from the surface of the skin.
Mash one avocado and combine it with an egg yolk, a small amount of milk or yogurt for an excellent natural skin cleanser. The cleanser should be left on for about 30 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
Avocados contain many vitamins including vitamins A, C and E. Vitamins A and C help to increase the production of collagen, which is the substance that prevents premature wrinkling. They also help to soften the skin and increase the production of new cells. Vitamin E helps to increase the blood circulation within the skin, and this can prevent premature aging as well.
Simply apply a mashed avocado to the face or other areas that are prone to dryness, such as the hands, back or feet. Oils made from almonds, olives, rosemary or lavender, may be added to the avocado for extra nutrients or scents. After 30 minutes the mask may be washed off with warm water.
The vitamins and healthy oils are also very helpful in restoring a natural shine to dull and damaged hair. They help to moisturize and strengthen brittle hair and prevent it from breaking.
A hair mask can be made by mashing one ripe avocado and mixing it with an egg and 1 tbsp of oil such as jojoba, olive or rosemary. Massage the mixture into the scalp and hair and leave in for about 20 minutes. The hair can then be washed and conditioned as normal.
The above uses will have immediate results; while adding the fruit to the daily diet can help to bring those beauty benefits about from the inside out.
