Get a healthy dose of your daily protein from cottage cheese. One half cup of this chunky stuff contains 14 grams of protein to fuel your body and keep the cravings at bay. Protein is an excellent nutrient for the muscles, bones, hair and nails. Well actually, it’s good for the entire human body!
Protein speeds up the body’s natural healing mechanism and also helps to prevent aging. It enhances the functions of the brain, thereby reducing the risk of mental illnesses.
Cottage cheese is also high in calcium; and probiotics, which are beneficial for the digestive system. As for the calcium, I’m not entirely sure whether it’s the best source or not because it’s from an animal. I do know that dairy is not a good source, but cottage cheese is in a different form, so I really don’t know. If you know, leave a comment below. 🙂
You can probably eat cottage cheese a million different ways; you can bake with it, add it to your soups, spread it on a sandwich, or enjoy it in a fruity dessert.
And then there’s the way I eat it: Plain with a bit of sea salt and black pepper. Sometimes I also add a squeeze of lemon if I have one handy. I don’t have an actual recipe for this – I just sprinkle it on – stir and taste test until it’s where I like it. The only thing to remember is that cottage cheese is naturally high in sodium, so you may want to be a bit cautious as to how much sea salt you add. Salt is good for you, but within certain limits.
Then I eat it straight out of the container. It’s that simple! And since I do a lot of mono-dieting, this is actually a meal for me. But most might consider this a snack or as a dressing or side dish.
So I hope you’ll enjoy this simple way to add more protein to your diet!
