Weight loss has become a big business in North America as more and more people are suffering from being overweight. There are many fad diets designed to help you lose weight by reducing your calorie intake. It makes perfect sense that when you reduce your calories that you will also lose weight, however, simply reducing calories is not the answer if you want to go about it in a healthy manner. And believe it or not, but your body is designed to let you know when you have eaten enough.
There are many other things, besides counting calories, that you can do to help you along such as, eating foods that help with weight loss, regular exercise and getting plenty of sleep. The following are some of the things that you can do to help you lose weight without counting calories.
Eat Only when Hungry and Stop Eating When Full
This is a real big one as once you begin to overeat, your body begins to store the extra food. This is the body’s natural way to prepare itself for a famine, however, it is not a healthy thing to do on a regular basis because eventually that stored food becomes toxic. The end result of that equals extra pounds.
The best way to avoid eating when you are not hungry is to eliminate all the junk food in your home. This is a tough thing to do, and it might not always work, but it will help to steer you in the right direction.
As for stopping when you are full is another tough one because most of us have lost touch with our bodies. In addition, we tend to eat so fast that by the time the full signal reaches the brain, we have already over eaten. One way to avoid this is to eat slow and thoroughly chew the food so that the body has more time to send the signal.
Get Plenty of Sleep
Studies have shown that getting plenty of sleep can have many positive effects on weight loss. For one, it helps to maintain the hormone levels, which then reduces stress and food cravings, both of which can contribute to weight gain, or make it impossible for anyone to lose weight.
Opt for Natural Foods
If you are trying to lose weight, the best thing to do is opt for natural foods. The reason being is that anything that is not natural will build up inside of you because the body has no easy way of getting rid of it.
Natural foods include fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, and herbs and spices. You can also include animal products that have not gone through any processing. Animal products, however, should be kept in moderation, and ideally they should also come from grass-fed animals.
A basic rule of thumb is to avoid anything that is in a box, bottle, tin can or any other type of packaging. Generally these foods are loaded with high amounts of salt, preservatives and other food additives, in order to make them look and taste good.
Juice fasting is a good way to give your digestive system a break so that it can recuperate and function better. A good digestive system is important not only to absorb the nutrients, but for waste elimination as well.
If you have never done a juice fast, then you should not attempt to do it for more than a day or two. The reason being is that it is hard on the body, especially the first day. This is the time when a lot of toxins are eliminated from your body, and thus your detox symptoms, such as headaches and fatigue, will really kick in.
If you stick with a clean diet in between your fasts, then you will be able to fast a little longer each time.
During the fast you will lose a lot of weight, but because you are losing it so fast, some of it will come back once you start eating again. Do not let that discourage you because your digestive system will be more efficient, and thus the fast will continue to work for you.
Lots of Fluids
Drinking lots of water during weight loss can serve you basically in two ways. For one, it can help to keep you feeling full and energized, which in turn can help you to avoid junk food. Ideally, you shouldn’t drink with your meal because that will interfere with the digestive juices. But you can drink as much as you want about an hour before and after each meal. Drinking before the meal can actually help you to feel full sooner at the table and stop you from overeating.
Second, water helps to wash out all the toxic waste material that is released from your cells during this time.
Bitter herbs, such as chamomile, dandelion, goldenseal, milk thistle, peppermint, and wormwood, are excellent herbs to help speed up the digestive process. You can drink them in a strong tea before the meal, or sip some during the meal. If you are able to get them fresh, then you can also add them into your meals.
When you sweat your body eliminates toxins through your skin. Hence the reason why your body odor increases every time you break a sweat. The more toxins that are released, the worse it gets.
How does that help you to lose weight? Simple. Toxins are harmful to the body, and the body will do everything it can to protect itself from them. One of the methods that it uses is to store those toxins in fat cells away from the organs. This ultimately leads to excess weight, but once the toxins are eliminated, the body can also eliminate the fat cells as it no longer needs to hold on to them.
An easy way to promote a sweat is to drink a hot ginger tea. You can also take a hot bath or engage in exercise.
Last but not least, and you already know this one, but you should engage in moderate exercise. If you eat healthy you won’t have to engage in that much exercise, but you should still keep your body moving. Breaking a sweat several times a week by going for a short walk or a jog is really all you need for cardio. Strength exercises also do not need to be aggressive, and one or two sessions a week is all you need to maintain your muscle mass.
