Raw foodism is the practice of eating a minimum of at least 75% raw foods. Eating the foods raw helps to preserve all the enzymes and other nutrients so that the body can create its own nutrients and be strong and healthy.
Raw foodists strive to eat organically grown foods whenever possible, as they do not contain pesticides, and in addition, they contain more nutrients.
There are several variations of raw foodism, and each variation has its own rules:
The raw vegan diet is the most popular amongst raw foodists. It can provide you with all the nutrients that you need in order to live a long and healthy life. You just have to remember to eat them raw as much as possible so that your stomach can absorb all the nutrients.
The raw vegan diet promotes a lot of leafy green vegetables as they are said to be healthiest for you. Root vegetables and others are also highly promoted as well as fruits, herbs, sprouts, nuts and seeds and many superfoods such as raw cacao, acai berry, goji berries, maca and protein powders.
These foods are combined into salads, smoothies, raw fruit pies and other fancy dishes to mimic the foods on the modern menus. Fruits and vegetables are also juiced in many cases, and nuts and seeds are used to make delicious nut milks.
Among the raw vegan dieters are fruitarians, whose main part of the diet consists of fresh fruits; the sproutarians, whose main part of the diet is fresh sprouts; and juicearians, who press their fruits and vegetables and herbs into delicious juices.
The raw vegetarian diet consists of plant-based foods as well as dairy and dairy products, eggs and honey. Some vegetarians will consume dairy, but will not consume eggs, and others are the opposite and will consume eggs, but refuse dairy.
The raw omnivorous diet allows you to eat anything as long as it is raw. This includes raw plant-based foods, dairy and dairy products, eggs and meats.
Those who consume raw animal products avoid anything that is processed and/or contains preservatives or other food additives.
In addition, they choose to get their food from animals that are free range and grass-fed as opposed to those that have been drugged with harmful growth hormones, antibiotics and other drugs. Studies show that those animals that are grass-fed are more nutrient rich, and are far less harmful, as they do not contain the high levels of harmful bacteria that grain-fed animals do.
